Beloved Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins is Leaving the Group

Emma Watkins has announced she’s leaving the Wiggles!

The much loved Yellow Wiggle shared her news in a video posted to Instagram, describing what she hopes to do next:

“Like many people around the world, the pandemic has given me time to reflect on what is important in life,” she said, with a sign language interpreter appearing in the clip too.

“For me that means spending more time at home, something that I didn’t realise I was missing out on being away eight months of the year on tour.”

She adds that she’ll be spending more time on her PhD which incorporates her “ongoing passion for sign language” as well as dance and film editing, and working with the deaf community.

Emma, who joined the Wiggles in 2010 and was the first female to join the group, shared her gratitude for the experiences she’s had with the band over the past decade:

“I am eternally grateful to The Wiggles for giving me this amazing opportunity to be the first female Wiggle, a role that I have loved and has given me so much joy and an abundance of ‘bowtiful’ memories that I will treasure forever.”

And in true, kind, Yellow Wiggle style, she’s encouraging everyone to welcome her replacement:

“As the Wiggles continue to evolve and someone new now steps into the yellow skivvy, I look forward to children and families embracing them , as much as they did when I began.”

So who is donning the yellow skivvy?

It’s Tsehay Hawkins and she says she’s “incredibly excited” to take on the role.

“Dancing has always been my passion, and I look forward to being able to share the joy of song and dance with children all over the world! Thank you to @emma_wiggle for leading the way!”
