Brendan Fraser Cries Tears of Joy After Winning Best Actor Oscar

Brendan Fraser has won the Best Actor Oscar – and he was full of tears, and metaphors!

The Hollywood star who was a staple of the 90s and early 2000s movie scene and has made a triumphant return to the industry, was recognised for his role as a morbidly obese teacher and dad in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale.

“I’m grateful to Darren for throwing me a creative lifetime and hauling me aboard the good ship The Whale,” Brendan said while accepting his award.

“It was written by Samuel D. Hunter who is our lighthouse. Gentlemen, you laid your whale-sized hearts bare so that we could see into your souls like no one else could do and it is my honour to be named alongside you in this category.”

He also thanked his co-star Hong Chau, who he said had “a depth of talent only whales can reach.”

This caps off a successful awards season for Brendan who already won Best Actor at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

In the Best Actress category, Michelle Yeoh won the prestigious award for her role in the multi-verse fantasy Everything, Everywhere All At Once.
