Lauryn Hill Makes History As The First Female Rapper To Go “Diamond”

Lauryn Hill blessed the late 90s with her iconic voice and gave us hits like “Doo Wop (That Thing)” and “Lost Ones” on her one and only solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Now, more than 20 years later, she’s making history with that same album.

The Recording Industry Association of America has announced that Lauryn has become the first female rapper to become diamond certified.

That’s right. Diamond.

Better than gold. And better than platinum.

It means she’s sold over 10,000,000 units of the album, placing her alongside other diamond certified artists including Tupac, Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G and the Beastie Boys.

“Pretty wonderful to know that this album continues to bring happiness to people,” the singer posted on Instagram.

But hey, it’s no surprise really. It is a fantastic album.

At the 41st Annual Grammys back in 1999, Lauryn’s music was nominated for 10 awards and she won 5 of those. At the time, she became the only female artist to receive that many nominations and awards in a single night.

Boys…you know you better… watch out. *wink*
