The Red Hot Chili Peppers have received their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame more than a decade after being selected for the honour!
Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and John Fruiscante were all there for the ceremony – and Kiedis even licked the star at one point. Lol.
Several of their famous pals shared words about the rock band including Woody Harrelson who highlighted their philanthropy:
“I know they’ve given hundreds of thousands of dollars to an orphanage in Peru. They were the first guys, back before everything was digital in your era, they were the first guys to do non-wood post-consumer waste paper for their CDs, saving thousands of trees. On top of all that, they were the first people to really make the common, ordinary sock a central part of the fashion wardrobe!”
The Chili Peppers are also involved with the Silverlake Conservatory of Music which is a non-profit supporting youth through music, co-founded by Flea.
According to a message shared by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce on socials, the band was selected to receive a star back in 2008. Yep, 14 years ago!
The band also took to the podium to share some words about how much this moment means to them and how much they mean to each other:
“Something happens when we come together which is much greater than the individual parts. The sum total of our parts is that we were able to find something that we love doing and communicate with the entire world,” Keidis said.
Their star is the 2,717th on the famous boulevard.
