Iconic all-female rap trio Salt-N-Pepa have been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
The group who found global success in the 80s and 90s with songs like “Shoop”, “Whatta Man”, “Push It” and many more, received the 2, 738th star on the famous boulevard.
During their acceptance speech, Cheryl “Salt” James spoke of the “women who came before” and “all the strong women” who paved the way in a male-dominated industry.
She went on to remind all women to “push it” and keep going despite the obstacles:
“The women who have endured misogyny in this industry, but somehow find a way to persevere, the women behind the scenes who never get to shine, women who are overlooked and underestimated, just keep on pushing it.”
Sandra “Pepa” Denton highlighted how their own group “went against all odds, against all trials and tribulations, turbulence” but stayed focused and kept going too.
Among their many accomplishments, Salt-N-Pepa were the first female rap act in history to win a Grammy!
