So there were a lot of reports going around that NFL legend Tom Brady would be announcing his retirement soon. And I really do mean a lot.
News channels were doing entire tributes to him last week as if it were a done deal.
But it was never confirmed. It was media talk that was picked up after a now-deleted tweet from Tom’s company, TB12, shared his various accomplishments (7 Super Bowl Rings, 5 Super Bowl MVPs, 3 League MVP Awards, 22 Seasons. You get the drill!) and thanked him “for it all.”
And it spread around the world in seconds!
But today, Tom is finally addressing those reports in a new episode of his SiriusXM podcast, Let’s Go! With Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray – and it doesn’t sound like he’s ready to decide on his future plans just yet.
“Sometimes it takes some time to really evaluate how you feel and what you want to do and I think when the time is right I’ll be ready to make a decision one way or another just like I said last week,” he tells Jim, who then proceeded to ask the NFL star if he was surprised by the retirement reports.
“I think for me, I’m just, literally it’s day to day with me. I’m just trying to do the best I can every day and evaluate things as they come and trying to make a great decision for me and my family,” Tom responded.
He was also questioned about whether he does have a timeline in mind for retirement.
“I don’t know,” Tom said.
“I know when the time is right, so like I’ve always said I’m very blessed to play as long as I have. As things have gone on in the later parts of my career, whether that was five years ago or even this year, you know, there’s a lot of interest in when I’m going to stop playing. And I understand that. It’s not that I don’t recognise that. It’s just when I know, I’ll know and when I don’t know, I don’t know. And I’m not going to race to some conclusion about that.”
And there you have it! He doesn’t know yet if he’s retiring or not.
