Jon Stewart’s Tribute to Beloved Dog Boosts Donations to Animal Haven

Animal rescue charity Animal Haven says it’s received thousands of dollars in donations following the passing of Jon Stewart’s much-loved family dog.

The Daily Show host recently shared a heartfelt tribute to Dipper, explaining how his family first met the three-legged Brindle Pit Bull 12 years ago when his kids set up a cake stall to raise money for the shelter.

“We left that day feeling really good that we helped this wonderful organisation. And we also left with this one-ish-year-old Pit Bull,” he said through tears. “In a world of good boys, he was the best.”

Jon’s monologue quickly went viral online as thousands of people connected with his sadness over losing a long-time furry friend. Animal Haven shared the clip on their social media pages too and within a few days days, the charity received an influx of donations – $35,000 so far!

“Many of our staff remember the bake sale outside the shelter over 11 years ago that Jon references. As soon as Dipper was placed next to Jon, he sat by his side (and vice versa) for the next two hours. They were immediately drawn to each other and inseparable. It really was magic and quickly became obvious that Jon wasn’t going to leave without Dipper,” a message on Animal Haven’s Instagram page reads.

“Each day, we place dogs and cats in loving homes. They are all so very lucky. But Dipper really hit the jackpot that day to find a home where the humans living in it aspire to treat animals at the highest level. Dipper went through so much early in his life being hit by a car and losing his leg, but Jon and his family gave him a brand new life that started unwittingly on that fateful day at Animal Haven selling cupcakes with his kids. Dipper lives now in our hearts and minds as a powerful reminder of the importance of pet adoption and the love that an animal can bring into your life. So here’s to the best boy ever – Dipper. We love you, miss you, and will never forget you.”

According to the shelter’s website, donations made in honour of Jon Stewart’s dog will be used to provide food, vet care, medications and cover the costs of life-saving surgeries for their animals.
