Miley Cyrus Shares Beautiful Reason Why She Named Her New Rescue Dog “Angel”

Miley Cyrus smiles at a red carpet event. She has a blonde fringe and wavy blonde hair. She's wearing a strapless black dress and has several necklaces layered around her neck.

Miley Cyrus has a new furry friend!

In an Insta post, the “Plastic Hearts” singer shared a series of photos of her dog family including a new pit bull she’s called “Angel” – and yes, there’s a very special reason behind her name.

“Almost two months ago my best friend, a rescued pit mix Mary Jane, left this world. I knew she wasn’t gone for good. She had outlived the body she was in but she never said goodbye….with her eyes she whispered ‘See you soon Bestie.’ Mary Jane defined loyalty and would never break a promise.”

Miley explains that Mary Jane, who died from cancer, inspired the name for her new dog, “Angel”:

“I feel her here with me blessing this new member to my family who’s name is ‘Angel’ because she was delivered to me by one…..My Mary,” she writes.

“It breaks my heart to know Angel was sleeping on concrete in a shelter for three months before finally making it home. The stigma and stereotype that surrounds pit bulls tears me in two. This breed is incomparably loving. Just like humans, nurture often overrides nature.”

Miley describes being “head over heels in love” with her new pup:

“Not sure I will ever sleep again because I can’t take my eyes off of her! Her halo shines for all to see and I can’t wait to show her off!”

“She is illuminated by the aura of the late and great Mary Jane. Long live love. it never dies. ALL THE TEARS YOU SEE IN THIS SLIDE ARE HAPPY ONES.”

Angel joins Emu, Miley’s Shetland sheepdog and Bo Cyrus, a shepherd mix named after dad Billy Ray, who was nicknamed Bo Cyrus at school!
