Selena Gomez has an exciting new project in the works.
The singer and actress will portray trailblazing Peruvian-American mountaineer Silvia Vasquez-Lavado in a movie about her life.
Vasquez-Lavado was the first Peruvian woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest and the first openly gay woman to complete the Seven Summits where she climbed the highest mountain on each continent.
She’s also a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and the founder of non-profit organisation Courageous Girls which is helping abuse and trafficking survivors in Nepal, India, the U.S. and Peru rebuild their lives.

In a post on Instagram, the 46-year-old mountaineer describes how grateful and she is to have Selena taking part in the film:
“I am so honoured and touched for the bold, talented and brilliant Selena Gomez in taking the starring role and as producer.”
The biopic will be based on Vasquez-Lavado’s upcoming memoir, “In the Shadow of the Mountain.”
