Angelina Jolie is taking on the education crisis that seems to be unfolding during the coronavirus crisis.
The Academy Award-winning actress and humanitarian has donated US $1 million to non-profit organisation No Kid Hungry to support children who are missing out on meals because of school closures.
“As of this week, over a billion children are out of school worldwide because of closures linked to coronavirus,” the actress says in a statement.
“Many children depend on the care and nutrition they receive during school hours, including 22 million children in America who rely on food support,” she continues. “No Kid Hungry is making resolute efforts to reach as many of those children as possible.”
It’s understood Angelina Jolie has also made an undisclosed donation to the UN Refugee Agency to support the education of the most vulnerable children and families affected by coronavirus internationally.
She is also working with UNESCO on the establishment of a Global COVID-19 Education Coalition to ensure kids around the world can continue their education during the pandemic.
