“Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson” is Highlighting the Global Impact of Melting Ice Caps

Rainn Wilson is going by the name Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson now – and there’s an important reason why.

The Office alum has teamed up with scientists from Arctic Basecamp, to raise awareness about melting ice caps in the Arctic and how it impacts all of us around the world. In a video on Twitter, the actor explains that he’s changed his name (though not legally, only on socials) to highlight some of the issues that arise – notably heat waves and extreme winters – and he’s urging celebrities, fans and anyone with a social media account to do the same.

“You see, what happens in the Arctic doesn’t stay in the Arctic,” he begins.

“As the polar caps melt, it drives up risks throughout the world – including extreme weather events that affect all of us. So as a cheap little stunt to help save planet Earth, I’ve changed my name on Twitter, Instagram and even on my fancy writing paper.”

Rainn – apologies, Rainnfall –  goes on to offer up some name suggestions for his famous friends:

“Cardi the Arctic B Melting… Jack Black Carbon is Killing Us… Amy Poehler Bears are Endangered… Harrison Why Not Drive an Electric Ford… and Samuel Earth’s Getting Hot as L. Jackson.”

The call for attention to the melting ice caps and climate issues comes ahead of the COP27 summit which will begin in Egypt soon.

Last year, the actor made a statement to world leaders at COP26 by holding a bottled melted iceberg:

“Why am I doing that? Because the Arctic sea ice is melting at an unprecedented rate. In fact, on the Greenland ice cap alone, 17 million of these bottles are melting. Every minute? No. Every second!”

If you’d like to join Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson in changing your name, all you have to do is update your social media handles. Not too sure what to change yours to?
