Nicki Minaj Cancels Saudi Arabia Concert to Show Support For Women and LGBTQ

Nicki Minaj has cancelled her scheduled performance in Saudi Arabia, concerned about human rights issues in the country.

The singer was due to headline the Jeddah World Fest next week along with former One Direction star Liam Payne and DJ Steve Aoki. So far, Nicki is the only one who’s pulled out.

In a statement to the Associated Press, she explains, “while I want nothing more than to bring my show to fans in Saudi Arabia, after better educating myself on the issues, I believe it is important for me to make clear my support for the rights of women, the LGBTQ community and freedom of expression.”

The Human Rights Foundation has praised Nicki’s decision and is hoping other artists involved in the show will follow her lead.

Meanwhile, Nicki is very aware that she’s let down many of her fans in the region but is inviting them to connect with her on social media:
