Beyoncé’s Black is King was released in 2020, a visual album serving as a companion to the 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift, which has been hailed as a celebration of both black culture and fashion. Among the standout outfits was the Marine Serre moon print bodysuit worn by Beyoncé and her dancers in the video for “Already”.
Zerina Akers, the stylist behind Black is King, shares in a statement to Vogue why she chose the bodysuit:
“At the time, the brand had not yet commercialised the brown colourway. I wanted a second skin, a brown skin – brown bodies and an even playing field where Beyoncé wears the same thing as her dancers and are unified.”
