After being cancelled in 2020 and held later in 2021 due to the pandemic, the Met Gala was back in full swing today, the first Monday of May, and it did not disappoint!
Co-chaired by Hollywood royalty, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Broadway legend Lin-Manuel Miranda and fellow Hollywood icon Regina King, the theme this year was ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’ and the assignment was to bring ‘Gilded Glamour’ to the red carpet.
And while the Met Gala is an annual celebration of fashion and artistry and more fashion, it’s also a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This is the place where more than 33 thousand costumes and accessories from all over the world are immaculately kept, some of the items dating back to the 15th century!

Back in 1948 when the first Met benefit was held for New York’s social elite, tickets were only about $100 (the equivalent of approximately $1000 today). That went up to $1000 when Anna Wintour took the reins as chairwoman in 1995. In two-decades she has built the gala into the multi-million dollar event that it is today, with tickets costing over *checks notes* $40,000. Yep!

She looked like she had materialised from a fairytale wearing an Atelier Versace gown with a statement bow that was unravelled as she ascended the steps, transforming the dress from rose gold to a soft blue/green.
