A judge has suspended Britney Spears’ father, Jamie, from the conservatorship that has controlled her life for the last 13 years.
“The current situation is not tenable,” Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny said, ordering the suspension after Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, petitioned to have him removed.
Jamie’s lawyers, who had previously filed a petition indicating he was willing to step down from the conservatorship “when the time is right”, argued that a mediation and settlement would be required first.
“Let me be clear. She does not want to settle with her father. She does not want to mediate with her father. She does not want any further delay with her father,” Rosengart said in court.
Dozens of fans and #FreeBritney advocates stood outside as Jamie’s suspension was announced.

There’s still more on the case to come….but for now, this is a victory for Britney – and a small step closer to freedom. However, the conservatorship currently still exists, and she’s not free just yet.
