Marion Cotillard & Juliette Binoche Cut Their Hair in Solidarity with Iranian Women

French stars Marion Cotillard and Juliette Binoche are showing their support for the women of Iran.

The Oscar-winning stars have shared videos on social media chopping off their hair in solidarity with the thousands of people who’ve taken to the streets – many of whom have been cutting their hair or removing their hijabs as an act of protest following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. Mahsa had been detained by “morality police” in Iran for allegedly wearing her hijab loosely. She died in custody on September 16. In response to the viral videos of women cutting their hair, Iranian authorities issued a social media blackout.

“For the courageous women and men of Iran who are changing the world at this very moment, fighting for freedom,” Marion captioned her video.

“We stand by you.”

Iranian actress Gol Farahani expressed her deep gratitude for their support: “Proud of my sisters in France.”

Angelina Jolie also shared her support with a powerful message on Instagram:

“Respect to the brave, defiant, fearless, women of Iran.. Women don’t need their morals policed, their minds re-educated or their bodies controlled. They need freedom to live and breathe without violence or threats. To the women of Iran, we see you.”
