Christy Turlington is marking her 54th trip around the sun – and fellow supermodel, entrepreneur and good friend Naomi Campbell is full of love for the birthday girl!
Taking to Instagram, Naomi (or Dr Naomi as she’s now called after receiving an honorary doctorate), shared a carousel of photos of the two of them modelling together over the years.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO My BFF, my 1st room mate ever, chosen family of 36 years,” Naomi captions the pics.
“Most beautiful lady in the world inside and out, intelligent, hardworking, loyal, caring and kind… always consistent.”
Naomi goes on to explain how proud she is of Christy for all the incredible work she’s been doing through her foundation, Every Mother Counts: “SAVING MOTHERS AND BABIES FROM MATERNAL MORTALITY,” she writes.
And she’s right – Christy started the charity in 2010 after experiencing complications during the birth of her first child and learning soon after that hundreds of thousands of women around the world are dying from complications because they don’t have access to the maternity care they need. Ever since, Every Mother Counts has been helping communities in some of the most remote areas of the world, delivering solutions to reduce maternal mortality rates (such as funding electricity generators in make-shift hospitals) and in the process, impacting over 1 million lives.
Christy commented on Naomi’s post calling her a “sister”:
“Thank you so much, Sister! So many years and memories we share and great photos to remind us!”
