Leslie Grace Thanks Fans for “Love and Belief” After ‘Batgirl’ Pulled From Release

Batgirl star Leslie Grace has shared a statement following Warner Bros.’ surprising decision to stop the movie from being released.

In a message posted on Instagram, the actress expressed her gratitude for the process and thanked fans for their belief in her:

“On the heels of the recent news about our movie ‘Batgirl,’ I am proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland,” she begins.

“I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process! To every batgirl fan – THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, ‘my own damn hero!’ Batgirl for life!”

The film would’ve been Leslie’s biggest acting role since her performance in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights – but also, how many superhero films do we have involving a Latina actress in the lead? *checks notes* Yeah, exactly.

Warner Bros. announced this week that it would not release the movie in theatres or on HBO Max even though the film is in post-production.

Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have also shared a statement following the news. Part of it reads: “We wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves. Maybe one day they will insha’Allah.”
