Francia Raisa Urges Fans to Learn More About Kidney Disease

Grown-ish star Francia Raisa says she’s ready to use her platform to raise awareness about kidney disease.

You might remember, the actress donated her own kidney to close friend Selena Gomez four years ago, after the singer suffered complications stemming from an autoimmune disease known as lupus. (Awesome friend, right?)

In a post shared on Twitter on March 11 – which happens to be World Kidney Day – Francia urges her 210,000 followers to learn more about the disease:

“If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I’ve kept my kidney donation process pretty private. However, I think I’ve gotten to a point in my life where I feel comfortable and confident in speaking about my experience, and using my platform to raise awareness for the various kidney diseases that affect our population,” she writes sharing a photo of herself in hospital.

“While I wasn’t affected personally by kidney disease, I’ve seen the impacts of it firsthand and want to do my part to help educate others on it,” Francia continues.

“So in honour of World Kidney Day, let’s talk about the impact of kidney disease and how we can work to ensure those living with kidney disease are living well.”

She also linked to a page sharing resources, support and more information about kidney disease -like the fact that between 8 and 10% of the adult population has some form of kidney damage, and every year, millions of people die prematurely from complications related to Chronic Kidney Diseases.

Selena who has known Francia since 2007, shared her friend’s post writing: “Thank you for blessing me. I am forever grateful to you.”
