Kevin Jonas Healing Following Surgery to Remove Skin Cancer

Kevin Jonas has undergone surgery to remove a skin cancer spot on his face – and he’s using his platform to urge  fans to get checked too.

The 36-year-old Jonas Brothers member shared the news in a video posted to Instagram. He explained that doctors discovered the basal cell carcinoma on the right side of his forehead during a checkup.

“Yes, that is an actual little skin cancer guy that has started to grow,” he said in the clip before having surgery.

“Alright, I’m all done, now it’s time to heal, heading home” he says later in the video, speaking from his hospital bed. He adds,”make sure to get those moles checked, people.”

You might be wondering what basal cell carcinoma is exactly – well, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation it’s the most common form of skin cancer which arises from “abnormal, uncontrolled growth” of basal cells usually triggered by DNA damage from exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun or indoor tanning. As always, early detection is key.

Kevin isn’t the only celebrity who has undergone surgery for skin cancer. A number of famous people have spoken out about their experiences including reality star and entrepreneur Khloé Kardashian and model Christie Brinkley. Last year, Hollywood star Hugh Jackman revealed he’s had a number of basal cell carcinomas removed too:

“If I can just take this opportunity to remind you summer is coming for those of us in the northern hemisphere, please wear sunscreen,” he said at the time.

“It is just not worth it. No matter how much you want a tan, trust me. Put some sunscreen on. You’ll still have an incredible time out there. Alright. Please be safe.”
