Madonna fans around the world have celebrated the Queen of Pop’s 60th birthday by raising more than US$600,000 for vulnerable children in Malawi.
You see, last month Madonna posted a message for her gazillions of social media followers, explaining exactly what she wanted for her birthday – donations to her foundation, Raising Malawi.
Her post explains: “I have an unwavering commitment to providing vulnerable children with a loving home. For my birthday, I can think of no better gift than connecting my global family with this beautiful country and the children who need our help most.”
The money would be directed to The Home of Hope Malawi where hundreds of the country’s 1.4 million orphans are cared for, given meals, clothing, an education and medical support.

Madonna’s post continues: “I want to come together with my friends, fans and supporters to change the lives of Malawian children and let them know they are nurtured, protected and loved.”
She had set a goal of $300, 000 but on August 16 – Madonna’s actual birthday- the donations went well beyond! She’s now set a new goal of $800,000, plus all donations are being matched by international payment firm Ripple.
The birthday fundraiser will continue until the end of August. If you’d like to contribute, check out Madonna’s Facebook page.
