Lizzo is pledging to support reproductive rights following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade, a case that protected a woman’s federal right to have an abortion.
The “GRRRLS” singer has announced she’ll be donating $500,000 from her upcoming tour to two organisations – Planned Parenthood and the National Network of Abortion Funds which provide healthcare resources and work to remove barriers to abortion access.
Concert producer Live Nation will be matching that donation, taking the contribution to $1 million in total.
“The most important thing is action and loud voices,” Lizzo shared on Instagram.
“@PPFA @AbortionFunds & organisations like them – will need funding to continue offering services to people who are most harmed by this ban.”
“Black women & women of colour have historically had disproportionately less access to family planning resources – this is a great loss but not a new one.”
She ends by urging her millions of followers to consider making a donation too and to take action by signing petitions protesting the decision.
