Gigi & Bella Hadid Donate $1M to Humanitarian Relief in Palestine

Supermodel sisters, entrepreneurs and philanthropists Gigi and Bella Hadid have pledged US$1 million to support relief efforts for children and families in Palestine.

A spokesperson for Bella has told the BBC the funds will be shared between four humanitarian organisations. These include Chef José Andrès’ hunger relief nonprofit, World Central Kitchen, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, Heal Palestine, and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) which has publicly thanked the Hadids for their donation:

“We send our sincerest thanks to sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid for their astounding generosity and support of PCRF’s aid efforts alongside those of other organisations aiding Palestinians. Thank you both for your support of our mission and this gesture of hope and solidarity.”

World Central Kitchen recently set up a field kitchen in Gaza called Damian’s Kitchen which was named after one of their 7 aid workers killed by the Israeli Defence Forces earlier this year. The kitchen is providing thousands of meals daily to residents fleeing Rafah.

All the organisations named support humanitarian efforts by providing food, clean water, medical programs or displacement assistance to Palestinian families.

Gigi and Bella are half Palestinian themselves and have consistently advocated for the Palestinian people for many years. In 2021, after appearing on the cover of Vogue, Bella took to social media to express her solidarity:

“A Palestinian girl on the cover of Vogue. The joy it brings me to say that… I won’t stop talking about the systemic oppression, pain and humility that Palestinians face on a regular basis. With only love in my heart and an open mind to educate myself and learn more every day… No matter what. I love you.”

Bella is posting content on a daily basis on her Instagram stories about the current humanitarian crisis Palestinians are facing including forced famine and malnutrition. At the recent Cannes Film Festival, she wore a dress made from a keffiyeh to raise further awareness and show her support.

Similarly, Gigi is also using her platform to speak up. In October 2023 after Hamas’ attack on Israel, she took to Instagram to reject all forms of terrorism:

“I have deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation, it’s a responsibility I hold daily. I also feel a responsibility to my Jewish friends to make it clear as I have before: While I have hopes and dreams for Palestinians, none of them include the harm of Jewish people. The terrorising of innocent people is not in alignment with and does not do any good for the ‘Free Palestine’ movement. The idea that it does has fuelled a painful, decades-long cycle of back & forth retaliation which no innocent civilian, Palestinian or Israeli, deserves to be a casualty of, and helps perpetuate the false idea that being Pro-Palestine = antisemitic.”
