Kurt Fearnley’s Special Needs Unit for Kids Opens in Kenya

If, like me, you thought Kurt Fearnley couldn’t possibly be any more amazing than he already is, well, think again.

The Aussie Paralympian (and Officer of the Order of Australia and disabilities advocate and champion of an epic list of causes) is in Kenya right now for the official opening of his unit for kids with disabilities. It’s called the Kurt Fearnley Special Needs Unit at the Ruben Centre in Nairobi and it is changing lives. 

More than 50 children are currently using the unit. They’re from Nairobi’s Mukuru community, a slum with a population of close to 1 million, struggling with poverty, disease and no access to education.

At Kurt’s Unit, the kids are given nutritious meals. They receive schooling. They’re offered physio and OT services. And the focus is on their abilities. 

The aim of Kurt’s Unit is to promote the inclusion of all kids through education and sport. Check out some of the incredibly heartwarming pics from his visit below:
