Ashton Kutcher has posted an emotional video responding to fans who keep writing “All Lives Matter” on his social media pages, as a counterpoint to the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
“I don’t think that the people who are posting All Lives Matter should be cancelled. I think they should be educated,” he begins.
“We all agree all lives matter” he continues before telling the story of how he and Mila read a book to their kids every night, but always allow their daughter to choose a book first, before their son.
“And tonight, while we were reading her book, my son says ‘wait, why don’t I get to go first?’ And Mila says ‘because girls get to go first’.”
“I said to him, you know why girls go first? …For some boys, girls don’t get a go at all. And so for you and me, girls go first.”
Ashton then used this experience with his kids to explain the conflict that arises when people say “All Lives Matter.”
“I think what folks who are writing All Lives Matter need to understand is that for some people, black lives don’t matter at all,” he says fighting back tears. “So for us, black lives matter.”
“While you may have the best intentions in writing all lives matter, remember, for some people black lives don’t matter at all.”

Ashton Kutcher isn’t the only celebrity using his platform to re-focus the dialogue on black lives – Seth Rogen is outright shutting down any talk of “All Lives Matter” on his social media pages by telling his followers to “F*** off!” while Billie Eilish posted a message on her Insta page explaining, “the slogan #blacklivesmatter does not mean other lives don’t!”
