Banksy Does His Bit For Charity

Elusive street artist Banksy has done his bit to raise money for COVID relief efforts in the UK, with one of his works auctioned off for more than 14 million pounds.

YEP. Not a typo! 14 million pounds – that’s over $25 million in Australian dollars.

The black and white artwork shows a young boy playing with a toy nurse wearing a cape, with his Batman and Superman toys discarded in a bin beside him.

Titled “Game Changer,” the piece was auctioned live through Christie’s auction house on the one year anniversary of the UK going into COVID lockdown.

The final price of 14.4 million pounds set a record for a Banksy. But additional fees pushed the final price up even higher to just under 17 million pounds or $30 million AUD.

Mind-blowing, right?

It was initially expected to fetch a couple of million pounds, so understandably, organisers are pretty stoked with the final result.

The auction house says the money is going to “supporting the wellbeing” of staff and patients at the University Southampton Hospital.
