Celeste Barber Gets Serious About Suicide Prevention

She’s usually making us laugh so hard, we’re shooting coffee out of our nostrils, but today, Celeste Barber is getting serious about a cause close to her heart: suicide prevention.

The comedian and Instagram queen (yes, she beats ALL other Instagrammers in my books!) is an ambassador for R U OK?, an Aussie charity urging us all to reach out to our mates and check on them.

“Being an ambassador for R U OK? is a big deal for me. I have lost friends to suicide and I always wonder what could have been,” Celeste explains in an Insta post for the organisation.

Her message continues: “It’s so important for us to reach out and open up the lines of communication especially if we see someone struggling. Ask R U OK? and if you’re still not sure or you’re still worried, ask it again. Send it in a text, fax it , send a carrier pigeon if that’s how you roll, just let people know they aren’t alone. We all suffer darkness at times in our life and it’s vital for people to know that no matter how low or sad or scared or dark they are feeling, that there is someone there holding a big, bright torch.”

We lose more than 3000 people to suicide in Australia every year.

If you or anyone you know is struggling, you can find help and support through RUOK? and Lifeline.
