Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen Distributing Thousands of Free Meals at Ukraine-Poland Border

Chef José Andrés and his hunger relief charity World Central Kitchen (WCK) are responding to the humanitarian crisis unfolding as tens of thousands of people flee a Valdimir Putin-led Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The famous chef has shared that his teams are currently on the ground on the Ukraine-Poland border, providing free meals at a train station and financially supporting organisations already on the ground who are cooking for refugees. They also plan to set up base in Romania over the next few days.

In a video shared to Instagram, Chef Andrés says, “we need to be a force for good. And you know how we do this? By relieving hunger at tables. Not bombing.”

He adds that he will donate between $2 million and $5 million from funds donated to him by billionaire Jeff Bezos to support the cause too.

This week alone, WCK has been providing hunger relief in Madagascar following Cyclone Emnati, Tonga after the devastating tsunami, Brazil following the landslides and America supporting health care staff.
