Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has received the People’s Champion Award at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards – but he decided to give it away, on the spot!
The actor, entrepreneur and philanthropist was honoured by presenter Jeff Bezos who praised Dwayne for both his work and his kind heart:
“His achievements are legend. His work ethic is unparalleled. He transcends all demographics He is impossible not to like and he can sure put down a lot of pancakes,” Jeff said.
And he’s not wrong. Have you seen how many pancakes Dwayne has on his cheat days?
“But even with all that, the thing that really stands out the most? He’s kind,” Jeff continues.
“You see, kindness is a choice. And what I admire most in Dwayne is his choice to show unwavering kindness to everyone around him.”
Accepting his award, Dwayne totally proved Jeff’s point by surprising a teen girl in the audience who was a Make-a-Wish recipient.
“This is a total surprise. I met her earlier. I told her how inspired I was by her story,” Dwayne said.
“She is a survivor. She has fought literally for her life. She has inspired her family, her friends. Now you guys here. Now the world that is watching.”

As the young girl joined Dwayne on stage, he handed over his award and said, “you represent everything that it means to be a people’s champion.”
Yeah, we’re all crying over here. How ’bout you?
Before leaving the stage, Dwayne shared some words from the late and great boxer Mohammed Ali who said, “Service to others is the rent you pay for the room you have here on Earth.”
He ended by dropping a phrase that’s become synonymous with Dwayne himself: “It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice.”
