Jimmy Kimmel’s Million Dollar Donation to Hospital That Saved His Son

Everyone’s favourite truth-speaking talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel and his wife Molly have donated a million dollars to the  Children’s Hospital Los Angeles – the same hospital that saved their baby boy’s life.

You might remember Jimmy speaking about it on his show last year. Billy was just 3-days-old when he had to have open-heart surgery for a rare heart condition. Jimmy spoke about how lucky his son was to have access to vital health care and how important it is for everyone to have access to it, not just those who can afford it (see video below). The hospital apparently received hundreds of calls after the show – and lots of generous donations.

So when the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles had its annual fundraising event over the weekend, they honoured Jimmy with the Courage to Care Award for all he’s done to support them. Meanwhile Jimmy, feeling so grateful for the care his son received, wanted to return the kindness:

“So many children from so many different financial backgrounds are cared for so beautifully and with so much compassion” Jimmy said, “we can never repay them, but we are going to try.”

In addition to the $1 Million donated by the Kimmels, the hospital raised another $4.5 million in total at Saturday’s event. Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson hosted the evening while Pharrell, Heidi Klum and John Stamos were all there too.
