Jay & Radhi Shetty Raise Over $3.6 Million in 48 Hours For India’s COVID-19 Relief Efforts

“Think Like a Monk” author Jay Shetty and his wife, conscious cooking YouTuber Radhi Devlukia-Shetty have managed to raise over $3.6 million to help the people of India as a humanitarian crisis continues to unfold due to the COVID-19 pandemic – and they did it in 48 hours!

The pair (with the heavenly eyes, have you stared into those yet? I’ll give you a minute…) recently hosted a virtual event which they called Help India Breathe with celeb pals from all over the world taking part.

And yes, it rained kindness.

Singer Shawn Mendes contributed $50,000 as did Hollywood star Will Smith and his family.

Ellen DeGeneres raised $59,000 through The Ellen Show and author Jamie Kern Lima donated $100,000.

Other celebrities who took part include Jay Sean, Lilly Singh and Deepak Chopra.

Through their friends and fans, Jay and Radhi raised US$1,688,981 in total, which was then matched by a $1 million donation from non-profit organisation Indiaspora and another $1 million donation from billionaire businessman Vinod Khosla taking the final tally to $3,688,981.

The funds are going to three major areas of COVID-19 relief on the ground including food, direct cash transfers to families who have lost a primary earning member and the creation of COVID care centres and makeshift hospitals which are so desperately needed right now.

The United Nations are calling the situation a “COVID tsunami” with the death toll in India surpassing 200,000 people, the total number of infections over 17 million and at least 350,0000 new cases being reported daily.

Furthermore, the rapid spread of the virus is pushing hospitals and health care centres close to collapse with oxygen, hospital beds and essential drugs running out. Patients are being turned away and families are battling to find oxygen cylinders in a desperate attempt to treat their loved ones at home.

So Jay and Radhi’s fundraiser over here? It matters.

“Thank you to ALL my friends who came together to support this cause! You’re such beautiful souls and I’m so grateful to have you in my life. I know that we will continue to find new ways to serve and support,” Jay posted on Instagram after the event.

Radhi also thanked everyone who took part:

“YOU ARE ALL LEGENDSSSSS!!! It was so incredibly beautiful and moving to see how many people were to support India yesterday from ALL OVER THE WORLD,” she captions an Insta post of her and Jay smiling.

“This is just the beginning…and it really demonstrated just how much we can do in a short time when we all come together.”

It certainly can.
