The curtains are down on Broadway thanks to the pandemic and thousands of actors have been out of work for almost a year now, but Law & Order: SVU’s showrunner Warren Leight is hoping to change that.
You see, last week, the NBC show announced their cast for an upcoming episode would include Tony-nominated actress Eva Noblezada and Beetlejuice actor Alex Brightman.
A fan commented on Twitter how they’re both Broadway stars and Warren replied with,”we are trying to hire every Broadway actor we can while we and they wait for the curtains to rise again.”

He also sat down for an interview with Deadline where he said, “we know how hard the community has been hit here. The goal is to get as many jobs to as many theatre actors as we possibly can.”
Sure, it may not mean full-time roles, but it’s definitely something.

“With nearly 97,000 workers who rely on Boradway for their livelihood and an annual economic impact of $14.8 billion to the city, our membership is committed to re-opening as soon as conditions permit us to do so,” Charlotte St. Martin, President of the Broadway League said in October, 2020.
Theatres have been shut since March last year and are not expected to reopen until at least May 31, 2021.
