Matthew McConaughey is on a mission to support emerging musicians.
The Hollywood star, author and philanthropist is collaborating with alcohol brand Wild Turkey and nonprofit record label Spaceflight Records to launch the 101 Bold Nights Music Mentorship. It’s a competition that aims to find and support an artist who has demonstrated a passion telling bold stories through their craft with the winner receiving a personalised mentorship with the label.
“Music shapes culture,” McConaughey, who is creative director for Wild Turkey, says in a statement.
“It creates community, brings people together and offers a soundtrack to life’s most important moments. Along with Wild Turkey and its partner Spaceflight Records, I am thrilled to announce the 101 Bold Nights Music Mentorship to support emerging artists who are crafting inspiring music.”
He also tells People, it’s an opportunity to help someone get their foot in the door: “I know how hard it is for a young band to get in or get heard.”

McConaughey tells the publication it was director Don Phillips who helped him land his role in Dazed and Confused: “He gave me a chance to read, got me in the door. Once I was in the door, I did enough to get the job.”
