Olivia Newton-John’s wish to support people impacted by cancer is still going strong, more than two months after her passing.
The late star’s Walk for Wellness has been held in Melbourne, Australia over the weekend with 4,000 people taking part and thousands more making donations from around the world. Organisers had hoped to raise $1.5 million for Olivia’s Cancer Centre but instead they raised a whole lot more!
“Thanks to the work and generosity of many, the fundraising tally for this year’s event is $2,626,990,” a message from the Centre reads.
“This is truly a wonderful result for a special event for an incredible woman. On behalf of every person with cancer that will now have all the support they need to thrive through their diagnosis and treatment – we appreciate you.”
The funds are put towards evidence-based wellness programs that help reduce the side effects of cancer treatment, as well as equipment and research.
Olivia passed away from breast cancer on August 8. She was 73.
