Oprah Winfrey is doing her bit to support Americans struggling through the coronavirus pandemic.
The media queen today announced she’s donating US $10 million to various relief efforts across the country.
In an Instagram post, Oprah explains that $1 million has already been donated to America’s Food Fund, a GoFundMe page which is raising money to help feed struggling communities. The fund was started by some celebrity pals including Leonardo DiCaprio and humanitarian chef José Andrés.
“I feel like this is the central place to go if you really want to do something,” Oprah says in a video call to Andrés and Claire Babineaux-Fontenot who is the CEO of hunger relief organisation Feeding America and is a co-founder of the fund.

@chefjoseandres and Claire Babineaux-Fontenot have teamed up with @leonardodicaprio, Laurene Powell Jobs and @Apple to launch America’s Food Fund to help feed local communities. I was struck by the work these organizations are doing and while everyone’s priority right now is to stay safer at home, I know there are many of us looking for ways to help. I believe that America’s Food Fund will be a powerful way to make a difference for our neighbors in need and am committing $1 million to this fund to support those facing food insecurity. I am donating $10 million overall to help Americans during this pandemic in cities across the country and in areas where I grew up. “Everybody’s sitting at home thinking I don’t know what to do, I don’t know where to give my money. I know that I can trust my money in your hands,” she continues.
As for the remaining $9 million? It will “help Americans during this pandemic in cities across the country and in areas where I grew up,” Oprah explains.
