Oprah Winfrey is doing her bit to support Americans struggling through the coronavirus pandemic.
The media queen today announced she’s donating US $10 million to various relief efforts across the country.
In an Instagram post, Oprah explains that $1 million has already been donated to America’s Food Fund, a GoFundMe page which is raising money to help feed struggling communities. The fund was started by some celebrity pals including Leonardo DiCaprio and humanitarian chef José Andrés.
“I feel like this is the central place to go if you really want to do something,” Oprah says in a video call to Andrés and Claire Babineaux-Fontenot who is the CEO of hunger relief organisation Feeding America and is a co-founder of the fund.
“Everybody’s sitting at home thinking I don’t know what to do, I don’t know where to give my money. I know that I can trust my money in your hands,” she continues.
As for the remaining $9 million? It will “help Americans during this pandemic in cities across the country and in areas where I grew up,” Oprah explains.
