…the next, Orlando Bloom is in Mozambique singing along with these beautiful faces:
The Hollywood star and UN Goodwill Ambassador, is spending some time at a safe space for children in Sofala Province. He’s meeting kids who’ve lost their loved ones and their homes after Cyclones Idai and Kenneth made landfall earlier this year.
According to UNICEF, the natural disasters have left over 1.8 million people in Mozambique in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. Groups of people are now returning to their homes, but they have no food. Basic services like clean water and toilets need to be rebuilt from scratch. Many schools and hospitals have been destroyed and are being used for temporary shelter.
The safe space for children, ensures kids get to be kids despite everything that’s happening around them. They get to sing and play games. They’re given psychological support and health care.
Through his visit, Orlando is reminding us all that the cyclones may not be front page news anymore, but the devastation continues.
