Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem are doing their bit to help medical staff working on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic in their home country of Spain.
The superstar couple, together with legendary Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar and Spanish musician Alejandro Sanz have sourced and donated 152,000 surgical masks and gloves to the Gregorio Marañon Hospital in Madrid this week as well as non-profit organisation Open Arms in Barcelona who will distribute the medical supplies to nursing homes throughout Cataluña.
“The medical supplies we have been trying to source for weeks are arriving in stages and with delays,” the actress writes in an Insta post.
“The demand for these supplies is overwhelming and the delays are long. But today another shipment of these supplies has arrived!”
“This is the time to continue working together and supporting unconditionally the ones who need it the most amongst us,” Cruz continues “and the the amazing teams of exceptional human beings that care for them and look after all of us during our confinement.”
Last month Cruz and Bardem managed to track down 100,000 gloves and 20,000 surgical masks which were donated to La Paz hospital in Madrid.
They’re one of many Hollywood couples who are stepping up to help hospital staff including Amal and George Clooney who’ve donated $1 million to COVID-19 relief and Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis who’ve created an Official Quarantine Wine with proceeds going to support medical workers and struggling families.
