Pharrell Williams has paid off the student debts of five young Black leaders!
The generous move took place ahead of the musician and entrepreneur’s Something in the Water Festival where an NAACP panel was held on the student debt crisis and its disproportionate effect on Black youth.
The young leaders who spoke of the financial difficulties they would be facing post-graduation, were surprised by a moderator who announced their debts would be cancelled.
Priceless. The moment 5 young NAACP leaders learn @Pharrell is cancelling all their student debt.@POTUS, it’s your turn now to do the same for all Americans plagued by student debt. pic.twitter.com/hAQWh0wW0a

According to NAACP, the students said that “having their debts cleared means they can change their lives and give back.”
“This was a powerful moment,” Wisdom Cole, NAACP National Director of Youth and College tells WJLA.
“Now just imagine if President Biden made this a reality for all student debt holders in America. Student debt continues to disproportionately plague the Black community and crush opportunities for so many Black people. It is time to reduce the racial wealth gap. It is time for President Biden to fulfil his promise.”
