Portia De Rossi is using her art business, General Public, to help make protective gear for hospital workers across America.
The actress and philanthropist’s factory which is normally used to create 3D art works, is now being used to make face shields.
“We usually sheet canvas and make prints…that’s my business. We sell art,” Portia explains in a video from the factory.
“But these days it’s being used to create these – it’s cutting face shields right now,” she continues, holding up a clear mask.
“So this will be distributed across Southern California and all the hospitals who need them the most.”
Portia also appeared on wife Ellen De Generes’ show to talk about this great initiative to help hospital staff.
“So proud of this,” Portia said in a video recorded in their home. “It’s great to have a business and to make art. But this is really fantastic.”
“Cottage Hospital up here where we live, didn’t have anything,” Ellen explains. “They were low on everything so they’ll be able to get them. Really all hospitals that need them, you’ll service all hospitals.”
Portia confirmed her factory is prepared to make as many as may be required: “We can make in the tens of thousands.”
Helping out health workers isn’t the only thing Portia’s been up to during isolation. Much to Ellen’s delight, she’s also been learning how to cook!
