Simple Plan’s new music video “Wake Me Up (When This Nightmare’s Over)” is helping raise money for families impacted by war in Ukraine.
The clip which involves an entirely Ukrainian cast and crew, was released last week and the band says “all monies” generated through the YouTube views will go to UNICEF’s Ukraine Emergency Appeal.
“Working and being on set with this amazing team who all had a personal emotional connection to the story we were telling was incredibly touching and inspiring,” the band shares on Instagram.
“We are so grateful for the love on this video so far, and the support from all of you. We hope that this song and this video will help to raise awareness and support for the children and families affected by the war in Ukraine.”
The clip was directed by Ukrainian filmmaker, Jensen Noen who the band says “poured his heart and soul into writing the story of a family caught in the horror of the war and managed to create a heartbreakingly beautiful message for peace that feels both so personal and universal at the same time.”
Jensen adds, “Since the war started, I’ve gone through a range of emotions. From depression to rage to an overwhelming sense of helplessness. I can’t describe what it’s been like to watch my home country being torn to shreds…It feels so good to be doing something instead of just sitting around feeling helpless. To be able to use my art to help tell the story of my people.”
In addition to the funds raised through YouTube, the band will donate a portion of proceeds from tickets sold through their current tour. They’re also working with the Canada-Ukraine Foundation and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America to help boost their fundraising efforts.
