Sir Elton John Dedicates Song to “Tiny Dancer” and School Shooting Victim Jaime Guttenberg

Sir Elton John has honoured Jaime Guttenberg, a teenage fan who was murdered in a 2018 school shooting, during his recent concert in Pittsburgh.

Jaime’s father and gun safety advocate Fred Guttenberg had put out a message on social media asking Sir Elton to dedicate “Tiny Dancer” to his late daughter who loved to dance:

“The song Tiny Dancer has significant meaning to me… If you sing Tiny Dancer, hope you mention Jaime.”

Thanks to the power of social media, the message eventually made its way to Sir Elton:

“I want to dedicate this next song to the memory of Jaime Guttenberg, who used to dance to this song,” the superstar can be heard saying on stage in footage shared online.

“I was shocked at the awful school massacre and I had an email about it just before I went on. It really upset me to think that someone so beautiful and so young could have been dispensed in such an awful way. So this is for Jaime, and thank you for dancing to my song.”

Jaime’s dad responded to the dedication after seeing the footage:

“My Tiny Dancer Jaime Guttenberg is dancing in heaven. Thank you Sir Elton John for recognising the horror of gun violence and for honouring Jaime.”

Jaime was 14 years old when she lost her life – she was among 17 students and staff who died in the mass shooting.
