Women supporting women? We love it.
Women supporting women to celebrate the beauty of their humanness, their vulnerability and courage, their emotional awareness and strength? Hell, yes!
This morning, music icon Taylor Swift and gymnastics great Simone Biles are doing just that after Taylor recently narrated a heartwarming tribute to Simone ahead of her return to the balance beam at the Tokyo Games.
Speaking over her track This Is Me Trying and footage of Simone doing what she does best, Taylor asks, “What do we want from our heroes? What do we expect of them? What do we need from them? What happens when they surprise us?”

Her voice-over continues: “When you have the attention of the world, everything you do takes on a bigger meaning. It can be a heavy burden. It can be a chance to change everything. Throughout the last week, her voice has been as significant as her talents, her honesty as beautiful as the perfection that had long been her signature. But don’t you see. It still is. She’s perfectly human, and that’s what makes it so easy to call her a hero. Simone Biles, back on the beam in Tokyo.”
Whew. Now those are some meaningful words, aren’t they?
Well, Simone, who had withdrawn from a number of Olympic events to protect her mental health and ended up receiving a bronze medal in the balance beam final, responded after seeing the clip, posting on Twitter, “I’m crying. How special. I love you @TaylorSwift13.”
And Taylor shared the love right back:
“I cried watching YOU. I feel so lucky to have gotten to watch you all these years, but this week was a lesson in emotional intelligence and resilience. We all learned from you. Thank you.”
They aren’t the only two superstars lifting each other up this week. Did you catch this little interaction between Jennifer Lopez and Team USA rugby’s Ilona Maher?
I choose you too Ilona 🤍
