This May Just Be the Best Episode of Ellen…Ever!

Look, I know it’s hard to beat that time she scared the bejeesus out of Diddy:

And I know it’s hard to top all those times she’s had gorgeous little kids on the show doing gorgeous little things:

But this recent episode of Ellen may just be her best one yet. It is bursting with so much kindness and empathy and tolerance and acceptance and this notion that we really should just love people as they are. And really, how can you get any better than that?

It all started when Kate Austin sent a Tweet to both Ellen and Chrissy Teigen asking them to be a part of her special day with fiancée Sarah Sulsenti:

Ellen read out the message during her “Show Me Your Tweets” segment, before having Kate and Sarah on as her guests.

During their chat, Kate explained that it was Ellen who inspired her to come out and be her “authentic self” but that sadly, her mum doesn’t approve of her relationship and won’t be attending their wedding.

Ellen responded by saying that “everybody deserves love…..and the fact that your family doesn’t accept it, I am so sorry.”

The talk-show host then explained that she wouldn’t be able to make it to their wedding but offered a life-sized cardboard cutout of herself instead (complete with a moving arm that holds tissues!) and gave the pair an early gift, flying in their family and friends who do support their relationship.

There was a proposal in there too and another wedding gift as well.

But it was the final few sentences that Ellen said towards the end of the segment which really made this episode extra special:

“For Kate and for all the people out there who are not accepted by their family, you are loved by so many people and we love you for who you are exactly, so know that. And anybody struggling out there, just be proud of who you are and know that you’re going to find a different family and that (other) family might come around but for now, you have this family.”
