Coldplay has paid tribute to Sir Elton John during his final farewell concert in Sweden – and they put into words everything we all feel for the legendary musician.
Appearing via video link at each other’s shows, Coldplay lead Chris Martin momentarily paused his concert in Gothenburg to call out to Sir Elton in Stockholm who was bowing out as a touring artist after more than 50 years.
“Here we are in Gothenburg with everybody here, waving hello. Can you see us, Mr. Elton?” he asked with the crowd roaring behind him.
“Elton, we want to say from all of us here, from all the fans and all the artists that you’ve loved and inspired and helped, we just love you so much,” Chris continued.
“We’re so grateful for everything you’ve done for us, everything you’ve done for the AIDS Foundation, every time you’ve been kind to anybody, everything you’ve done for LGBTQ, everything you’ve done for fashion and eyewear, everything you’ve done for sexiness and love, everything you’ve done for music, the thousands of shows you’ve done, we love you so much.”

“Happy retirement, and we’re going to miss you so much, man.”
The 5-time Grammy winner’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour originally started in 2018 and was due to end in 2021 but was interrupted when the pandemic hit. According to a video shared on his official Instagram page, the tour featured more than 300 shows with over 6 million fans across the world watching him perform.
“What a journey this tour has been and now we find ourselves at the end of it,” he captioned the clip on Instagram.
And whilst this does mark the end of Sir Elton’s journey as a touring artist, there is some hope we’ll still be able to watch him perform. In a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, Sir Elton said he would definitely consider doing a residency!
