Family of Late Actor Brandon Lee Send Condolences to Halyna Hutchins’ Loved Ones

The family of late actor Brandon Lee has shared a message following the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins who has also been tragically killed on a movie set.

Halyna had been filming “Rust” in New Mexico when she was shot with what authorities have called a “prop firearm.”

A statement from Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department reads:

“Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor. Ms Hutchins was transported, via helicopter, to University of New Mexico Hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Mr. Souza was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical center where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries. This investigation remains open and active. No charges have been filed in regard to this incident. Witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.”

Shannon Lee, who lost her brother Brandon almost 30 years ago when he was shot on the set of The Crow with a gun thought to be filled with blanks, reacted to the news on social media:

“Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on “Rust”. No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period.”

Halyna was a journalism graduate who turned her talent and attention to the film industry after studying at the AFI conservatory and she was named one of American Cinematography’s rising stars in 2019. She’s worked on films including Archenemey (2020) and Blindfire (2020).
