Iconic British fashion designer and celebrated badass, Dame Vivienne Westwood, has passed away.
A statement on her official social media accounts shares that she passed peacefully with her family by her side in South London:
“Vivienne continued to do the things she loved, up until the last moment, designing, working on her art, writing her book, and changing the world for the better. She led an amazing life. Her innovation and impact over the last 60 years has been immense and will continue into the future.”
Westwood was a huge part of the punk movement, creating rebellious and often provocative pieces. She was also a well-known climate activist consistently demanding better of the fashion industry, and the maker of some truly wild headlines in her lifetime (remember when she did that twirl with her skirt post meeting the Queen, revealing … nothing underneath? Google it *wink*).
She was 81… and what an incredible 81 years she lived!
