It was a big day for the Branson family with Virgin founder and billionaire, Sir Richard Branson, making history as the first person to fly his own rocket to space.
And yes he made it back safely.
And yes, his family were worried about him the entire time he was gone! (It was only about an hour all up, but it would’ve been one nerve-wracking hour, right?)
In a post shared to Instagram, content creator, entrepreneur and Sir Richard’s son, Sam, described just how proud – and relieved – he is:
“To say I am proud of you dad would be an understatement. I feel as though my heart is bursting out of my chest. Today has been a day filled with every emotion humanly possible!” Sam begins.
“After 17 years of dreaming, believing and working tirelessly, in the face of insurmountable odds and doubters, you have officially become an astronaut! Not just by going to space but building your own spaceship company to get you there…and now enabling thousands of others to go too!”

“It always amazes me dad how you manage to do all that you do with such humour, kindness and compassion…treating everyone you meet how they deserve to be…with dignity and respect,” Sam continues.
“May this monumental achievement water the seeds of optimism in peoples hearts all over the world. Today is a day not just for you all who went up there, but the whole of humanity! Here’s to a brighter future for all of us living on this magnificent planet we call home. Nothing but love!”
He signed off, “Your very proud and very relieved son.”
Doctor, author, Virgin Unite Chair and Sir Richard’s daughter, Holly Branson, shared an equally loving and proud message on her Instagram:
“Annnnndddd, breathe,” Holly wrote after her dad landed safely.

“What an emotional journey. I am truly lost for words and have never felt so many butterflies in my stomach. Such an incredible and moving moment to be a part of.”
“Dad has dreamed about this day since he was a little kid, but said that going to space was more magical than he ever imagined. It was more magical and emotional to watch than I could have ever imagined too.”

The VSS Unity took Richard and his crew over 50 miles above the Earth’s surface where they experienced about 8 minutes of weightlessness.
During that time, Richard shared a message about hope… and the endless possibilities ahead:
