Ryan Fischer, the man described by Lady Gaga as a “hero” after being shot while protecting the singer’s dogs, has spoken out for the first time since the terrifying incident.

Ryan was walking Gaga’s three dogs, Koji, Gustav and Miss Asia last Wednesday evening just before 9.40pm when a car with two people in it pulled up to him demanding he hand over the pets.

He was shot once in the chest before the suspects took off with Koji and Gustav (who have since been returned safely).

In a post on Instagram, Ryan has shared some more details about what happened, as well as some photos of himself in hospital:

“4 days ago, while a car sped away and blood poured from my gun shot wound, an angel trotted over and laid next to me,” he begins.

“My panicked screams calmed as I looked at her, even though it registered that the blood pooling around her tiny body was my own. I cradled Asia as best I could, thanked her for all the incredible adventures we’d been on together, apologised that I couldn’t defend her brothers and then resolved that I would still try to save them…and myself.”

Ryan explains that he is still in recovery and is grateful for all the love and support he’s received from around the world as well as his family, friends, first responders and health workers:

“You literally saved my life.”

He also shared a loving message for Gaga: “Your babies are back and the family is whole….we did it! You have shown so much support throughout this whole crisis to both me and my family. But your support as a friend, despite your own traumatic loss from your kids, was unwavering. I love you and thank you.”

Ryan’s family said last week that he’s expected to make a full recovery.

As for the people who committed the crimes? They are still at large and the police investigation is ongiong.
