The mother of a young boy who inspired the song “Ronan” by Taylor Swift, has shared her thoughts on the new video released through Red (Taylor’s Version).
Maya Thompson says she’s “sobbing” over the almost 5-minute clip about her son Ronan Thompson who passed away from cancer in 2011 just days before his 4th birthday: “It is so painstakingly perfect.”
The video features beautiful family photos of Ronan which were provided by Maya, including ones of him in hospital fighting stage IV neuroblastoma. There’s also some footage of him and his mum at the start of the clip saying “I love you” to each other.
“This is how I’ll be all day,” she wrote in a separate post sharing a tearful selfie.
“I just listened AND watched Ronan, Taylor’s version. I couldn’t tell you about the music video until now. It is beyond perfection and I can’t wait for you all to see it,” Maya continues before sharing a heartfelt message directed at Taylor.
“@taylorswift13 You are one of the greatest loves of my life. TY for loving him.”

The song was originally a charity single Taylor performed at the 2012 Stand Up to Cancer event to raise funds for cancer research. And because it includes direct quotes from the Rockstar Ronan blog written by Maya about losing her son, she’s included as a co-writer in the credits.
The moving video ends with a message directing viewers to the Ronan Thompson Foundation “for more information on paediatric cancer.”
