Tyler Perry is remembering his late mother, Willie Maxine Perry, on what would’ve been her 78th birthday.

The actor, filmmaker and entrepreneur has shared a heartfelt post on social media, perfectly articulating the overwhelming love – and grief – he continues to feel ever since her passing:

“It’s been just about 14 years since you cried your last tear and I’ve not stopped crying since,” his message begins.

“Life lost all colour and flavour when you left this planet. For years I was in the grey until your grandson was born. He looks so much like you. He helped me to redefine all your favourite holidays, he’s brought colour to my life again.”

Tyler goes on to explain how he’s teaching his 8-year-old son Aman about compassion, just like his mama taught him.

“When I give to someone, I’m giving because you were a giver. When I show love to someone, I show them what you gave to me. You live on in all the kindness I try and show daily.”

He ends his message wishing Maxine a happy birthday, from her “baby boy.”

Tyler’s mum, a preschool teacher, passed away in 2009 at the age of 64. He’s never shared any further details of her death however he has said in the past that she inspired his famous character, Madea.
